Bernie Rhinerson is a communications strategist with more than 20 years of experience working with public sector and corporate clients to develop and implement successful communications programs. Rhinerson’s communications experience includes work for BearingPoint, Lennar, Delaware North Companies, Port of San Diego, Sempra Energy, LEGO Systems, Pardee Homes, and many others. He has also advised public agencies on their marketing and communications needs including the City of San Diego, the City of Oceanside, the City of Del Mar, and San Diego State University.

Rhinerson has been recognized for his creative development and management of communications programs. His work for LEGOLAND California earned a national award from the Public Relations Society of America and his work for the San Diego State University Centennial Year Celebration won a national Pollie Award from the American Association of Political Consultants and Creativity in Public Relations Award from the national magazine Inside PR. In 2001, he received the prestigious Eva Irving Award from the Public Relations Society of America for his community service as public relations professional and in 2005, Rhinerson was awarded the Otto Boss Lifetime Achievement in Public Relations Award from PRSA.

Rhinerson has been active in San Diego’s high technology community as a communications consultant to trade associations and high tech companies. From 1991 to 1996, he served as the executive director for the Biomedical Industry Council, a trade association representing San Diego’s biotechnology industry. During his public relations career, Rhinerson has also written and managed the production of corporate videos for a wide range of clients. He received a prestigious national Telly Award for a video he wrote and produced for the United Jewish Federation.

Rhinerson’s career includes 14 years as the Executive Vice President of San Diego’s largest public relation’s agency. He has also worked as the Vice President/Government Affairs for a major banking institution and as the Senior Vice President/Corporate Marketing for Southern California’s leading video production studio.

Rhinerson is an active member of the San Diego community. He served on the Board of Directors of the San Diego County Water Authority from 1998 to 2006 and was the Chairman of the Board from 2002 to 2004. He is a past member of the Building Industry Board of Directors, a former member of the San Diego Park and Recreation Board and a past President of the San Diego State Alumni Association. Rhinerson received his Masters and Bachelor of Arts degrees from San Diego State University. He is also an adjunct professor at San Diego State University in the School of Public Administration.
