Elizabeth Porreca is a public affairs professional and experienced journalist. At Southwest Strategies, Porreca serves as a senior writer, coordinates client projects, develops and implements public affairs programs, manages research and marketing efforts and utilizes her skills for client publicity programs. Porreca also has extensive experience in brochure development, web site content, newsletter and press release preparation and special events management. She also oversees strategic planning, public outreach and community relations programs for the firm’s wide range of clients. A veteran special event planner, Porreca has coordinated some of the firm’s largest special events, including grand openings and ribbon-cuttings for several San Diego-based clients.
Frequently responsible for media outreach, Porreca interacts closely with the local media and government communities for several clients including Pardee Homes and San Diego Gas & Electric. Recently, Porreca planned and coordinated media efforts for the opening of Pacific Highland Ranch’s Fire Station 47, San Diego County’s first station to open since the 2007 wildfires. More than 100 elected officials, community residents and local and state business leaders attended the event, which was heavily covered by local broadcast and print media.
Prior to joining Southwest Strategies in 2000, Porreca was a staff writer for Arizona’s leading sports magazine and for the ASU State Press. Porreca also worked for San Diego Magazine as a photojournalist. In this role she covered major events throughout San Diego to supplement the coverage of the magazine. Additionally, Porreca has extensive marketing and client relations experience in the retail and fashion industry. She has served as the visual marketing coordinator for a major international retail chain and supported the marketing efforts of several outlets in the Southern California area. Porreca also has several years of management experience.
Porreca is a graduate of Arizona State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism, cum laude. She is a member of the Urban Land Institute’s San Diego/Tijuana Chapter, Society of Professional Journalists, National Press Photographers of America and women in land use group. Porreca also serves on the Pacific Life Holiday and Poinsettia Bowl Committee, and Chairs its Public Relations Subcommittee.
