New Water Supply Coalition Selects
Southwest Strategies for Marketing Program
SAN DIEGO, CA (Feb. 1, 2006) – The New Water Supply Coalition, a Washington, DC based coalition of public water agencies and water industry companies has selected Southwest Strategies (SWS) to develop and implement a comprehensive marketing program for the organization. The Coalition’s goal is to gain Federal support for the development of new water supply projects nationwide from water recycling, seawater desalination and groundwater reclamation.

The New Water Supply Coalition is an expanded organization that grew from the U.S. Desalination Coalition (www.usdesal.org), formed in 2002, to seek federal funding for the construction of seawater and brackish groundwater desalination projects. The U.S. Desal Coalition has several major public water agency members from Florida, Texas and California. That Coalition raised Congressional awareness of the nation’s looming water supply crisis and successfully sought the introduction of legislation in the 109th Congress that would have provided $200 million in funding for desalination projects.

The New Water Supply Coalition has broadened its membership and focus to support any new water supply programs that can create new water needed for the growing population in our country. SWS will work with the Coalition Board and the Executive Director, Hal Furman of the Furman Group based in Washington DC, to develop communications materials including a revamped website, membership brochure and advocacy materials. SWS will also manage media outreach for the Coalition to seek national coverage of the Coalition sponsored legislation.

The SWS team will be led by partner Bernie Rhinerson, who has been active in water supply issues during the last decade through his service as a former Chairman of the San Diego County Water Authority. Stephanie Dell will also work on this project and manage media relations efforts.

SWS offers a full range of communications and strategic services for a diverse client list. SWS services include Public Affairs, Community Relations, Crisis Communications, Public Relations, Media Relations and Government Affairs. Alan Ziegaus, Chris Wahl and Bernie Rhinerson formed Southwest Strategies in April 2000. Each partner has extensive experience in public relations and public affairs. SWS provides personalized and strategic marketing and public affairs services for businesses, non-profits and government agencies.
