SAN DIEGO (Oct. 17) – Southwest Strategies, a leading San Diego public affairs firm, won two awards from the Public Relations Society of America at the 15th annual Edward L. Bernays Mark of Excellence ceremony on October 16.
The Award of Excellence for Internal Video Program went to Southwest Strategies (SWS) for their work on the San Diego Gas & Electric Otay-Metro Powerloop project. SWS worked with client SDG&E to develop a community relations program to educate the public about the largest underground transmission line in San Diego’s history. The video was produced by Chris Wahl, SWS partner; and Blake Nelson, Manager of Public Affairs. At the conclusion of the project, an internal video was developed to highlight project successes and key personnel. It used high-energy rock music to convey an upbeat and positive feel.
SWS also received the Award of Merit for Public Affairs Programs. SWS worked with its client the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation to develop a comprehensive public affairs program to build support for and ultimately the approval of Sycuan’s Tribal Gaming Compact. The public affairs program was developed and implemented by Bernie Rhinerson, SWS partner; and Stephanie Dell, Senior Account Executive. The Sycuan Tribal Gaming Compact was ultimately approved in both the California State Assembly and Senate.
"It’s a honor to receive this recognition from our peers in the industry," said Chris Wahl, vice president and partner of Southwest Strategies.
The Edward L. Bernay’s Mark of Excellence Awards is the industry’s most comprehensive form of recognition. Each year, PRSA recognizes the best work in the public relations field with the Bernays Awards.
